The decision to dismiss STY was quite surprising to several parties, because while coaching the Indonesian National Team, Coach STY provided quite good achievements.
Even though he has not given a trophy or championship title to the Indonesian national team, Coach STY has succeeded in creating a lot of history while coaching the Indonesian national team, such as bringing Indonesia through to the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications.

Shin Tae-yong has been the coach of the Indonesian national team since 2020 and has led the team in 57 competitive matches, with 26 wins, 14 draws and 17 losses.
Despite this, he has not been able to give any title to the Indonesian national team.

And STY’s achievement that should not be forgotten is bringing the Indonesian national team which is currently slumping in the FIFA rankings from 173rd to 134th in the world.
PSSI will look for a replacement coach to fulfill its ambition to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The new coach candidate will be announced on January 12.
