Patrick Kluivert is reportedly a strong candidate to replace Shin Tae-yong as coach of the Indonesian national team.
This news was first revealed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano shortly after PSSI terminated Shin Tae-yong’s contract on Monday (6/1/2025).

Romano said that the new coach for the Indonesian National Team would be contracted for 2 years, with an additional 2 year extension option. However, PSSI will only make an official announcement on Sunday (12/1/2025).

Shin Tae-yong (STY) has more coaching experience than Patrick Kluivert, with a career that started in 2005. After retiring as a player, STY started his career as an assistant coach at Brisbane Roar, Australia, before becoming the head coach of Seongnam Ilhwa in Korea South (2008-2010), overseeing the team in 190 matches with a record of 82 wins. He also led the South Korean National Team (2014-2018) and the Indonesian National Team (2019-2025). In total, STY has coached the senior team in 270 matches, with a winning percentage of 42.96% and a goal-conceding ratio of 1.25.
Meanwhile, Kluivert started his coaching career in 2008 as attack coach for AZ Alkmaar. Most of his career was spent as an assistant coach and youth team coach. Kluivert has just received the role of head coach at the Curacao National Team (2015-2016, 2021) and Adana Demirspor (2023). In a total of 34 senior team matches he managed, Kluivert had a winning percentage of 35.29% with a higher goal-to-concede ratio, namely 1.47.
