DomainJava .COM – After dismissing STY on January 6 2025. PSSI has officially announced Patrick Kluivert as the new coach of the Indonesian National Team, Wednesday (8/1/2025).
However, it turns out that the dismissal of Coach Shin Tae-yong was not a performance problem for the Indonesian National Team, but rather an internal conflict which was the cause.
PSSI General Chair, Erick Thohir also said that the decision to dismiss him was taken because dynamics within the team were the main reason.
Causes of Internal Conflict Occurring
Quoting from Bung Harpa’s YouTube channel, which also received information from PSSI staff, the conflict started after the draw against Bahrain in October 2024 in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, when a number of diaspora players criticized the tactics used.

The first conflict began to occur on 13-14 October 2024 (before the match vs China)
At that time several Indonesian national team players, such as Thom Hay, Jay Idzes and Sandy Walsh invited Coach STY and the national team staff to gather and discuss tactics.
However, STY felt offended by this invitation, because it was considered to be ahead of the coach and it was thought that STY did not understand tactics.
Then because of this incident, STY removed Jay Idzes as captain and was taken over again by Asnawi Mangkualam.

October 15 2024 (during the match vs China)
Thom Haye and Sandy Warsh also suffered the consequences of being substituted for the match which made Indonesia trail 2-0 in the first half.
Then during Half Time vs China, all the players were said to be unable to concentrate and the atmosphere in the locker room became heated due to the previous incident.
In the second half, Thom Haye was introduced with the aim of catching up from 2-0 down to China. Haye managed to contribute 1 goal but still lost to China 2-1.
October 15 2024 (after the match against China)
Until the end of the game, Sandy Walsh remained on the bench, while Eliano Reijnders did not even enter the squad.
After the internal conflict and defeat against China, one of the players allegedly reported it to Erick Thohir so Erick could make a quick decision.

Responding to this, Erick Thohir immediately rushed to the Netherlands to look for a replacement coach for Shin Tae-yong.

In the Netherlands, Erick Thohir invited 3 prospective Dutch coaches who he thought were capable of bringing the Indonesian national team to the World Cup. Unfortunately, of the three candidates, only Patrick Kluivert was present at the interview.

On Monday 6 January 2025, PSSI held a press conference and announced the end of Shin Tae-yong as coach of the Indonesian National Team.

Journalist Fabrizo Romano confirmed that Patrick Kluivert will become coach of the Indonesian National Team with a 2 year contract + 2 year extension option.
