DomainJava .COM – Manchester City failed to win when they hosted Everton in the 2024/2025 English Premier League Boxing Day match.
The match which took place at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday evening WIB ended in a 1-1 draw, making The Citizens have to be satisfied with a result that did not meet expectations.
Since kick-off, Manchester City appeared dominant, continuing to press and surround Everton's defense. Meanwhile, Everton chose to play with a defensive strategy and relied on quick counter attacks.
City finally managed to take the lead in the 14th minute. Bernardo Silva got his name on the scoreboard after receiving a mature pass from Jeremy Doku. This goal gave City a 1-0 lead.
However, this advantage did not last long. In the 36th minute, Everton managed to equalize thanks to a goal from Iliman Ndiaye. The 1-1 score lasted until the first half break.
In the second half, Manchester City appeared aggressive again, hoping to score a second goal soon. In the 50th minute, Savinho threatened Everton's goal with a hard kick into the corner of the goal, but Jordan Pickford managed to ward it off brilliantly.
City had a golden opportunity to regain the lead after the referee awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute, following Vitaliy Mykolenko's foul on Savinho.
Erling Haaland, who was appointed as executor, failed to take advantage of this opportunity. His shot was saved by Pickford who moved to the right.
Bernardo Silva grabbed the ball and sent it back to Haaland to head it in, but the goal was disallowed because Haaland was already in an offside position.
