DomainJava.com – Morecambe vs Tranmere prediction in the EFL League Two match, League Two bottom team, Morecambe, will host Tranmere Rovers, a team that wants to widen the gap between them and the relegation zone, at the Globe Arena on New Year’s Day.

The hosts have collected 17 points from 23 matches, leaving them two points adrift of the safety zone, while the visitors hold 22 points from 21 matches, three points clear of the relegation zone.

Morecambe beat Carlisle 1-0 in a crucial battle to avoid relegation at Brunton Park on Boxing Day, ending a four-game winless run in the league, but they were unable to build on that momentum, losing 1-0 away to Salford City on Sunday.

Derek Adams, now in his third spell as Shrimps manager since taking over in June, faces a tough task to keep his side from relegation to the National League, but the crux of the effort will be improving their poor form at the Globe Arena.

The Lancashire side are still looking for their first home win of the season despite having hosted 10 league games, with all four of their wins so far coming away from home, while their 14 league defeats are split evenly between home and away games.

To add to their difficulties, Morecambe are scoring on average more goals away from home than at home, while they have conceded 21 goals in 10 home games – three more than they have conceded away from home in 13 games, and the Shrimps also have the unenviable record of conceding more goals (39) than any other team in the league this season.

These defensive weaknesses are likely to lead to another defeat on Wednesday – however, the hosts can gain some encouragement from their five-match unbeaten run against the visitors, which includes three wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, Tranmere returned to action last Sunday following the postponement of their Boxing Day clash with Accrington Stanley due to poor weather conditions, and managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Barrow in their last outing.

Nigel Adkins’ side remain in 19th place after the draw, but with a game or two in hand over most of the teams around them, they could have a potential advantage if they can capitalize on those games.

Having ended a four-game winless run with a 2-1 win over Harrogate at Prenton Park on December 14, Tranmere are now winless in two games, having lost to Doncaster before drawing with Barrow.

The Rovers will hope to avoid a repeat of their previous slump, and although they may be optimistic about securing a positive result against the league’s bottom team, their worst away record in the division could hinder their efforts to claim three points.

Morecambe will be without 25-year-old striker Charlie Brown, who is still recovering from a long-term injury.

Marcus Dackers, who was unavailable against parent club Salford City in the previous game, is expected to return to the starting line-up and lead the attack.

Ben Tollitt, the team’s top scorer with six goals and two assists this season, is likely to feature on the right wing, and the dynamic striker will be a key player for the hosts to keep an eye on as they look to find the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Tranmere will welcome back defender Tom Davies, who was suspended for the draw against Barrow after being sent off in the match against Doncaster.

However, the visitors may still be without Brad Walker, Regan Hendry, Saidou Khan and Luke Norris, who are all absent due to injury problems.

Additionally, reports suggest that forward Sam Taylor has agreed a loan move to National League club Oldham Athletic, which will rule him out of action in this match.(ed)
