DomainJava.com – Dundee vs Ross County predictions in the Scottish Premier, Boxing Day features a bottom of the Scottish Premier League clash with Dundee taking on struggling Ross County at the Scot Foam Stadium in Dens Park.

This is the first time these two teams will face off at this venue this season, but the Staggies won 2-0 when they met at Dingwall in September.

Dundee will be looking for revenge this week, as it was this opponent who handed them their first defeat of the season in their reverse fixture, which was also the first of three successive defeats ahead of the October international break.

Since then, the Dark Blues have struggled for consistency, winning four, drawing one and losing five of their last 10 games, which sees them enter this game with just 19 points after 17 games of the season.

In their last match, Tony Docherty's side suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Rangers, marking their fifth away game in the without a win, four of which ended in defeat, with a 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock the only hope at that time.

At home, Dundee are currently on a three-game winning streak with wins over Kilmarnock, Hibernian and Motherwell, while they have also scored three or more goals in each of those games.

If the hosts are able to avoid defeat here, it would be the first time they have gone unbeaten in four consecutive home games since February, while a win would mark the first time they have won four in a row at home in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, having spent the last two seasons battling relegation, Ross County look set to fight for survival again this season, managing just 15 points from their 18 games to date.

The Staggies have been in a free fall over the last few weeks, losing their last four league games in a row, with the most recent loss coming last weekend with a 2-1 scoreline at home to St. John's. Mirren.

Don Cowie's side now hold the undesirable record of having the longest losing streak in the division and conceding 13 times during that period, taking their tally of goals conceded to 35 – the joint-worst tally with Kilmarnock in the league.

However, their struggles are not just down to defensive weaknesses, as they have scored just 14 goals this season – the fewest in the Premiership – five fewer than second-worst placed Killie on 19 goals to date.

Unfortunately for Ross County, a win this week looks highly unlikely given their away record, as they are yet to win any of their eight away games this season (W0 D3 L5), and have failed to score in six of those games.

Clark Robertson and Ziyad Larkeche have both made significant steps forward in their recoveries from thigh and hamstring injuries, but this game may come too soon to see them return to the squad.

Scott Fraser is reported to be fit again in a few weeks' time, while long-term absentee Joe Shaughnessy has started light training following his knee surgery and will return to action at the end of January.

Last week, Cowie explained that initial scans showed that Alex Samuel had torn his thigh muscle and now faces a lengthy spell on the bench after starting just two games following his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury.

Joining Samuel on the bench this week are Ross Laidlaw and Will Nightingale, both of whom are not expected to return to first-team duty until the New Year due to knee and groin injuries.(source: Sportsmole)
